Teacher Valentine - and no progress on WIPs

I guess, I am a "bit" late with this post. There has been too much traveling for work and other things going on lately, that I had no time to do much else.

Yanic, really (!) likes his teacher this year and wanted to make something special for her on Valentine's Day. We (I) had to come up with something that's not girly or cutesy.
For a long time, Super-Room-Mom-Lauranie has been making all these cute welcome signs for her kids' teachers and I decided to use her Ruler-idea. Only, I didn't have any burlap or non-pink/purple felt to use, so we thought about hanging typical teacher items from it. In the short of time the only thing we could come up with is an apple. I know, very creative....
Luckily, over at WeeFolkArt there is this great apple pattern. We doubled the pieces and handstitched them together. I made one apple and Yanic made one. We stuffed them very lightly with fiber fill.

From what I heard, his teacher like it and it's now hanging above her desk.

On the other hand, I am making NO progress on any of the projects I have on my list.

"My Pink Quilt" has been waiting since Christmas to be finished.

These two skirts over the chair have been sitting there since late December without a waist band.

Then there are two faux chenille blankets I am planning to make for the girls' birthday. I am one third done with the first, and it's taking longer than I thought.

And then, there are the birthday dresses, which are still two pieces of yardage...
Wishing there were more hours in a day!

Art Display

Straight up, this is not my idea, but unfortunately I cannot find the blog anymore where I saw this idea first.

The girls are bringing home artwork from school on a daily basis and I am having a hard time figuring out what to do with it: I can't keep EVERYTHING, right; and the fridge has barely any empty space anymore?!
So, we decided to make this interchangeable art display. All you need are a few supplies: paint chips from HD or Low's, a flower paper punch, a small hole punch, string, clothes pins and art work.

It's a nice project to make together with your kids. The girls had fun helping to punch out the flowers and then each "sewed" them onto the string by themselves.

Now, they get to chose which project to hang up and I don't have a counter full of "random" paper anymore.

Three Quarter Circle Skirt

The girls' all time favorite skirts are not doing it anymore: too tight, too short. However, they lasted a full 3 (!!!!) years.

So, they needed to be replaced with something similar. Since I still had this huge stock pile of left over jersey knit from other projects, I decided to use it up. Unfortunately, I did not have enough to make two full circle skirts. So, 3/4 of a circle had to do it. They are not quite as twirly, but I think the girls don't really care. One quarter section has four different ruffles sewn on top.

I made a yoga-pants-style waistband and re-used pockets from another skirt, that was getting to small.
I told the girls they could wear the skirt either way: pockets in front or back: K now ALWAYS wears hers with the pockets in back and A ALWAYS wears hers with the pockets in front. (Sorry, that's funny to me.)

If you are planning to make a circle skirt sometime soon, check out Farbenmix' free pattern. That would save you the calculating part!
